The Lady Broncos traveled to Elizabeth City, NC, Thursday to take on Elizabeth City State University inside the RL Vaughan Center and suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Lady Vikings, 104-85.
At halftime the score was 39-37, with the Lady Broncos only facing a two point deficit. Elizabeth City managed to pull away in the second half with inside scoring. ECSU outscored Fayetteville State 56-34 inside the paint.
ECSU had four starters with a double digit point total, led by Celeste Trahan. Trahan had the game-high in points and rebounds with 32 and 17, respectively. Ashley Bowman was another Lady Viking who finished the game with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Chelsea Jeter led all Lady Bronco scorers with 17 points, 15 rebounds (9 offensive), and five steals. Senior forward Rebecca Charles finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals, while current CIAA Player of the Week Tenisha McArthur contributed five points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, and three steals.
With the loss, the Lady Broncos move to 13-7 overall and 9-4 in the CIAA. Elizabeth City improves to 15-5 overall and 12-1 in the CIAA. Next, the Lady Broncos will travel to Bowie, Maryland to face the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University, Saturday, February 3, 2007.
