FSU Broncos Rule Shaw, 86-59, for Fourth Consecutive Win

Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State women's basketball team is on the up-and-up after defeating Shaw University (86-59) in Felton J. Capel Arena. The Broncos improved to 4-0 in the CIAA Southern Division with its four-game win streak and 4-5 in conference play.

Shaw falls to 5-16 overall, 2-7 in conference play, and 1-3 in the Division.

Noni Kuumba (Tracy, CA) scored a game-high 22 points as the Broncos capitalized on Shaw's 34 team turnovers. FSU converted those turnovers into 33 points.

Yakima Clifton (Durham, NC) scored her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She joined forces with Kuumba in applying a full-court defensive pressure that led to 12 fast break points.

The duo finished the game with four steals each. Clifton dished out six (6) assists while Kuumba contributed five (5).

Fayetteville State finished with a season-high 29 assists and 15 steals.

Shantel Bennett (Sanford, NC) went perfect from the floor making all eight of her field goals for a total of 17 points.

The Broncos jumped to an early lead taking the first period by a score of 21-12. FSU led 48-22 at halftime and led by as many as 35 points (83-48) with 3:08 left in the game.

Klintisha Martin led the Bears with 21 points and Lerven Johnson-Tyler scored 13.

Fayetteville State will travel to Raleigh for a 2 pm matchup against Saint Augustine's next Saturday, February 3rd.
