RICHMOND, Va. - Ashle Freeman scored 15 of her game-high 27 points in the first half as Virginia Union downed Fayetteville State 70-53 on Thursday night at Barco-Stevens Hall.
The Lady Broncos (7-7, 1-4) trailed by 17 points just 18 seconds into the second half, only to surge back into the game. Fayetteville State got five straight points from Je'Lena Robertson (So., Houston, Texas), followed by five more quick ones from Alicia Person (So., Henderson, N.C.) to spark a 12-0 run, trimming the deficit to just five, 34-29, with 17:18 to go.
But Virginia Union (5-9, 2-4) responded in kind, ripping off an 18-5 run to regain control of the game, eventually building a 21-point lead in the second half.
