Fayetteville, NC - The Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University lost their first home game of the season to Johnson C. Smith University Saturday afternoon in front of their fans at Capel Arena.

The Lady Golden Bulls produced a quick burst of offense. By the time Coach Eric Tucker called a timeout at the 9:46 mark in the first half, JCSU had jumped out to 22-12 lead. Senior guard Leticia Dickson responded after the timeout with back-to-back three pointers to narrow the gap between the two teams.

At halftime, the Lady Broncos faced a 37-27 deficit. JCSU shot 44.4% from the field compared to the 19.4% shot by Fayetteville State. The Lady Golden Bulls dominated the paint, scoring a 16-to-6 point ratio in the post.

In the second half, the Lady Broncos went on an 11-4 run to draw within two points of JCSU. A lay-up from sophomore center Randi' Watts made the score 45-43, JCSU leading with 16:43 remaining. But that's as close as FSU would come towards taking the lead.

Johnson C. Smith would eventually push the lead to 13 with a little over four minutes left to play. Junior guard Jamara McMillan mounted a 6-0 run for the Lady Broncos late in the period with three straight jumpers. But the JCSU would recover and close out the game with a 91-81.

The Lady Golden Bulls had five players with double digits point totals. Senior Ashley Chase led their charge with 20 points and 5 assists, while sophomores Kyria Bradford and Demetria Bell contributed 19 and 18 points, respectively.

Dickson was the Lady Broncos' leading scorer for the fifth straight game with her three consecutive 20-point performance, putting up 26 points, three assists and three steals. McMillan followed with 22 points, nine rebounds and six steals.

FSU falls to 7-7 overall this season and 4-2 in the CIAA. Johnson C. Smith improves to 9-4 in the overall standing and remains undefeated in the CIAA at 5-0.
