Lady Broncos Have Sparked Another Win-Streak

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State (12-2 overall, 4-0 CIAA) returned to the friendly confines of Felton J. Capel Arena to give its fans a glorious welcome back and a Happy New Year. The Lady Broncos defended its re-designed home court with a 72-59 victory over Lincoln (Pa.) (6-8 overall, 2-2 CIAA). Kristen Hanzer, this week's CIAA Newcomer of the Week, led FSU with 18 points. Fayetteville State led at halftime 38-31 margin.

The starting cast for the Lady Broncos provided major roles in the victory. Along with Kristen Hanzer's (Youngsville, NC) stellar performance, Akysia Resper (Concord, NC) and Tierra Coleman (Cameron, NC) added a dozen points each. Resper also collected eight steals while Coleman was one rebound (9) shy of a double-double. Shuanda Ashford was also shy with 11 points and nine boards.

FSU turned up the pressure on defense, forcing Lincoln (PA) to shoot 24.1% (7-of-29) for the second half and a combined 25% (15-of-60) for the game. The defense also forced 27 turnovers with 22 steals which contributed to 23 points.

The Lady Broncos continued their successful trend at the free-throw line making 20-of-3 3 (60.6%). FSU scored twice as many points in the paint (40-20) as Lincoln (PA).

The game tipped off to a slow start until midway through the first half. Fayetteville State pressed its way to the largest lead of the game (30-14) with 7:26 left. FSU poured in 22 points in the paint compared to Lincoln's ten.

Tahlar McIntosh had a career performance with the game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds for Lincoln (PA).

Fayetteville State will remain home on Saturday afternoon when it plays host to Virginia Union at 5:30 pm. Lincoln (PA) will continue on the road to Raleigh, NC for a 2:00 pm matchup against St. Augustine's on Saturday, January 12.
