Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State University women’s basketball team fell to Bowie State University 64-50 in a cross-divisional matchup held Monday, January 9th at Felton J. Capel Arena. FSU moves to 3-11 overall and 2-4 in conference, while the Lady Bulldogs improve to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in the CIAA standings.

BSU outscored Fayetteville State in the first three quarters. The Lady Broncos trailed 20-16 at the end of the first. Bowie State held an advantage off points in the paint (14-6) and points off turnovers (8-0) to grab the early lead. At the break, FSU faced a 29-21 deficit.

Bowie State created some distance by winning the third quarter 25-15. Fayetteville State fought hard in the fourth and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 14-10. FSU trimmed a 25-point deficit down to 14 down the stretch.

Junior guard Breona Jones (Henderson, NC) finished with nine points. Sophomore forward Yakima Clifton (Durham, NC) flirted with a double-double of 11 rebounds and nine points as a reserve. Junior forward De’ Aira Smith (Godwin, NC) chipped in eight points and seven boards.

Kyah Proctor had a game-high 19 points, along with five rebounds. Pere Alexander pitched in 16 points and five boards.

FSU shot 36% (16-44) from the floor and 54% (17-31) from the free throw line. The Lady Broncos edged BSU in rebounding 41-38.

Fayetteville State hits the road for their next matchup against Paine College on Wednesday, January 11th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on the campus of Paine in Augusta, GA.
