Lincoln Women Edge Fayetteville State 64-60 in CIAA Basketball

Lincoln, PA – Fayetteville State traveled I-95 North, prior to the winter snow storm, and was forced to wait a day to take on the Lions of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania for its first conference road game.  Lincoln (Pa.) snatched a 64-60 victory in the final minutes of the game.

Jamesha Mosley (Oak Grove, KY) led the way for FSU with 14 points while Breona Jones (Henderson, NC) contributed 12.

Teira Pendleton led the game for the Lions with 18 points.

Fayetteville State (4-7 overall, 0-3 CIAA) jumped to an early start with a 20-15 first quarter lead. The Broncos continued to lead 34-27 at halftime but was challenged near the end of the third period with a slim 44-42 lead.

Lincoln (8-4 overall, 3-1 CIAA) tied the game for the fourth time (48-48) off of a three-pointer by Pendleton with 8:08 left in the game.

FSU recaptured a three-point lead (58-55) with 4:23 left but missed three scoring opportunities, which led to a Lions’ 59-58 lead at the 1:58 mark. The lead increased to four (62-58) after a steal and layup by Michelle Fitzgerald and a free throw by Shecquan Bailey.

After a quick timeout after Bailey’s missed free throw with 35 seconds left, Yakima Clifton scored in the paint with 26 seconds left to trail by two (62-60) with 26 seconds left.

A quick Broncos’ foul stopped the clock at 22 seconds and gave the Lions a charity stripe opportunity. Missing both free throws, FSU once again grabbed the defensive board and advanced the ball with a timeout.

A player-control foul stalled FSU with 15 seconds left but an immediate Lion turnover gave the Broncos another shot. That shot was missed with nine seconds remaining and a pair of free throws gave Lincoln (Pa.) the 64-60 win.
