Fayetteville State’s Isaiah Shaw Qualifies for NCAA Super Region Golf Tournament

April 27, 2018

Fayetteville, N.C. – Fayetteville State’s recently named Male Student-Athlete of the Year Isaiah Shaw will represent the institution and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as an individual in the upcoming NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Region Golf Tournament. The 54-hole regional tournament will be held from May 7-9 at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.

The NCAA has announced the field of 80 teams and 32 student-athletes competing as individuals that have been selected to participate in regional competition. At a minimum, the top three teams and top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 21-25, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals, Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The finals will be hosted by the University of North Alabama.

CIAA Champion Livingstone College, Runner-up Virginia Union University, and Saint Augustine’s Sam Cudjoe will join Isaiah Shaw at the par-72 7,114-yard Cobb Course in West Virginia.

Shaw is the reigning 2018 Low Medalist Winner of the CIAA Golf Championships, which was held at The Club at Viniterra in New Kent Virginia. He won the event with a low two-round score of 153 (74, 79). His nine-over par was tied with Virginia Union’s Robel Woldagabriel. In a sudden-death playoff, Shaw finished the 18th hole with a par on the competition’s second attempt for the title.

The victory helped Shaw land on the All-Tournament team and the All-CIAA team, with the second best six-round seasonal average of 75.67. During regular season play, Shaw played his way to the Northern and Southern Division’s All-Tournament Team.

The junior golfer from Altamonte Springs, Fla. made the All-CIAA and All-Tournament Teams last season when he tied for second place in the championship tournament.

Following the Regional Tournament, Shaw will travel to Port St. Lucie, Fla. to participate in the 32nd PGA Minority Collegiate Championship.
