Port St. Lucia, FL - After one round, four-year reigning champion Fayetteville State currently ranks fourth with a 323 score at the 24th Annual PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships. Morehouse College leads the way with a 299; while last year's runner-up Lincoln (MO) hangs close behind at 310. The current CIAA champions Virginia State also leads FSU with a 311. Hope Mills, NC native, Jeremy Ringled birdied three holes on the Wanamaker Course to improve his score to 5-over-par. The Broncos will tee off in the morning at 8:15 am.
Ringled will continue the tournament as FSU's number-one player. He pared the first four holes before dropping a bogey on #5, a par four of 405 yards. Jeremy regained the stroke when he made his first birdie of the day on the 7th hole. He covered the 536 yards in four strokes. Following the minor feat, Ringled struggled on the par-four 8th hole by completing it with nine strokes. He pared the end of the first nine, but bogeyed the 10th and the 11th. His remaining birdies were on the 12th (a par-four for 400 yards) and 18th holes (a par-four for 462 yards).
Freshman Jedidah Frazier (Havelock, NC) finished tied at fifth along with Ringled with a 77. He finished the course with two birdies. William McClure's (Fayetteville, NC) 83 score ranks him tied at 18th on the day. Matt Crescenzo's (Cheltenham, PA) 86 is tied at 21st and Bryan Conner's (Hickory, NC) 87 is tied for 24th.
On the 18th hole at the bend of a water hazard, an approximately 8-10 foot long gator emerged from the pond to look on the action.
