Daniels, WV - Fayetteville State University Men's Golf team entered the 2009 NCAA Division II Super Regionals as the highest seed in the Atlantic Region. After the conclusion of the first of three rounds, the bull's-eye remains on the backs of the Broncos. FSU sits on top of the leaderboard with a 16 over par (304) score. West Liberty State and Adelphi remain in close contention with a 309 and 312 score. Derek Scott (Hope Mills, NC) and Joel Lynn (Sanford, NC) led the Bronco squad with a three over par score. They were both tied at fifth with two others in a 108 player field. Fayetteville State will tee off for the second round tomorrow afternoon at 12:50 pm.

The NCAA DII East/Atlantic Regional Tournament is being hosted by Concord University at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniel, WV. The Cobb Course is 7,084 yards for a Par 72. It features over 200 feet of elevation change, 54 sand bunkers, eight lakes, ever-changing sun angles, and fairways that subtly - or suddenly - slope the "wrong" way. One of the Cobb Course's most outstanding holes is No. 16. This 420-yard par 4 is the first of three great finishing holes and forces the golfer to carry water three different times, twice off the tee, and on the second shot to a well guarded green

The Broncos began the first round with early morning tee times. Bryan Connor took his first swing at 7:30 am. His teammates followed in 10-minute intervals. Joel Lynn, the 2009 CIAA Player of the Year, was the last Bronco to tee off with the fifth group (8:10 am). He had pars on the first three holes until he bogeyed the fourth hole. Lynn faltered again on the sixth hole with another bogey to finish the front nine with two over par. He limited his bogeys to one (hole #15) on the back nine. Lynn continues to lead the Broncos with a three over par score.

Derek Scott also had a +3 (75) score in the first round. He was three over in the front nine with bogeys on the third, fourth, sixth and seventh hole. Scott's score increased to +4 after the 10th hole but dropped when he birdied the 17th hole.

Kevin Lyles scored two birdies on his way to a +5 score (77 strokes). He was two over par on the front nine and +3 on the back. Jeremy Ringled was tied with Lyles on the leaderboard. He also chipped in a birdie on the front and back nine. Bryan Connor had two birdies on the back nine. He had a total score of 93 (+21) on the day. Of the 18 holes, Connor stroked four pars in addition to his birdies.

CIAA Runner-up Virginia State was ranked 20th for the day with a 333 score.
