Petersburg, VA -Fayetteville State University claimed third place at the CIAA Golf Championships during the conference's Spring Sports Festival in Petersburg, VA at the Dogwood Trace Golf Course. Host Virginia State University was crowned Champion for the second year in a row. Chowan University finished as runner-up. VSU's Matt Genchi was Low Medalist (145, 72-73) with a one-over-par and the Golfer of the Year with a 73.4 average.

The Broncos finished with a combined score of 650 (326-324). The Trojans had a 49 stroke lead (601, 306-295) for the championship spot. Chowan extended its day one four-stroke lead over FSU to 10 after dropping a 318 performance in the final round.

Junior Brandon Jobe (Fayetteville, NC) and sophomore Justin Smith (Lillington, NC) garnered All-CIAA honors during the post-tournament awards ceremony. Jobe finished the conference season with the second best overall average of 75.6. Smith ranked sixth with a 77.6 average.

The frigid temperature caused all kinds of havoc for the Broncos during the two-day tournament.

Jobe finished tied for sixth with a +10 (154, 73-81). His first round was the second best overall +1 with a total of four birdies.

His challenges arose with two bogeys on par fours on the back nine and a triple bogey on a front side par three. Prior to the triple, Brandon held a -3 after eight holes. Facing the 178-yard hole with a water hazard swallowing the majority of the yardage, his first shot made a splash. His second would land a few feet from the hole but a three-putt finish evened out the nine (36). Jobe managed two birdies for day two with seven bogeys and two double bogeys

Justin Smith tied for eighth with at 156 (78-78). Matthew Hawley's 168 (86-82) tied for 20th.

Johnson C. Smith finished fourth (679, 348-331), just ahead of Livingstone (700, 361-339) and Virginia Union (815, 405-410).
