Brandon Jobe leads the Broncos with a one-over-par 73

PETERSBURG, VA - The Virginia State University Trojans shot a combined 306 (+18) to lead after the first day of the 2014 CIAA Golf Championship held at Dogwood Trace Golf Course.

The Virginia State Trojans, defending CIAA Golf Champions, hold a 16 shot lead over Chowan University (322, +34) and a 20 shot lead over third place Fayetteville State (326, +38). Johnson C. Smith sits is fourth (348, +60), while Livingstone College (361, +73) and Virginia Union University (405, +117) are in fifth and sixth place respectively heading into the second day of competition on Friday.

In individual play, Virginia State University's Matt Genchi leads by one stroke after firing a 72 to finished the day at even par. Genchi had two birdies on the front nine and three on the back nine, couple with one double bogey and one bogey to lead the CIAA Championships by one stroke.

Fayetteville State University's Brandon Jobe shot a 73 (+1) on day one to finish one shot back, after recording four birdies, one triple bogey and one bogey.

Virginia State's Adam Clary (74, +2) along with Dalton Jolly (74, +2) helped the Trojans jump out to the first day big lead, as they combined with Genchi to give VSU three of the top five positions going into day two of the Championships.

Livingstone College's Stephen Washington also shot a 74 (+2) to round out the top five spots.

Day two of the 2014 CIAA Golf Championships will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg, VA.

The 2014 CIAA Golf Championships are free and open to the public.
