WALLACE, NC – The Fayetteville State men’s golf team fired a final round 338 on Saturday afternoon to finish in 12th place at the Inaugural UNCP/Campbell Oil Classic held at the par 72, 6895-yard River Landing Country Club. The Broncos finished the two-day event with a total score of 1037 in their final event prior to the CIAA Championships. Jacob Barge (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) was FSU’s top golfer overall finishing in 29th place.
Fayetteville State improved its third-round score by nine strokes after shooting a 347 in the second round and 352 in round one. Host school UNC Pembroke won the overall team competition by three strokes over Wingate after shooting a final round score of 294. UNC Pembroke and Wingate were followed in the top five by Lander, Mount Olive, Brevard and West Georgia.
Barge carded a 77 in the final round to finish in 29th place with a total of 232 (77/78/77). Brandon Jobe (So., Fayetteville, NC) earned a 59th place finish after shooting an 82 in today’s third round; he concluded the tournament with a 254 (88/84/82). Justin Smith (Fr., Lillington, NC) shot an 81 on Saturday to finish tied for 64th place with a 264 (95/88/81). Jake Bergman and Antonio Mayo (So., Jacksonville, NC) placed in 66th and 67th places, respectively. Bergman tallied a score of 289 (92/99/98) while Mayo concluded with a score of 302 (101/97/104).
UNC Pembroke’s Michael Mullmann won Individual Medalist honors with a score of 214 (-2) and won by three strokes over Brian Denton of Wingate. The rest of the top five consisted of: Jordan McColl of Lander, Aaron Abts of UNC Pembroke, Corbin Edwards of West Georgia, Kim Koivu of Brevard and Tyler Stone of Wingate.
The Broncos will return to action Apr. 18-19 when it travels to Camp Lee, VA for the 2013 CIAA Championships.
