Chesterfield, VA - Fayetteville State continues to battle back-and-forth with the defending CIAA Champions Virginia State. The Trojans won its VSU Round-up yesterday by three strokes; which was its first victory over the Broncos this season. Fayetteville State now leads the head-to-head rivalry 3-1 with its CIAA Eastern Divisional Tournament victory. The Broncos finished the par 72 Lake Chesdin course with a +25 (601 strokes). Virginia State trailed by 42 strokes for second place. Saint Augustine's was third with 683 strokes. Joel Lynn (junior - Sanford, NC) was the tournament champion with an even score (144) while teammate Kevin Lyles (junior - Charlotte, NC) finished second with one over par. Chip Lynn finished the first round of play with a two-under par scorecard. On the final day, he added four extra strokes for the even score. Kevin Lyles was the only other player to fall below par on the first day with 71 strokes. He was two strokes over par on the second day to finish the tournament +1. South View High School buddies Jeremy Ringled (junior - Hope Mills, NC) and Derek Scott (senior - Hope Mills, NC) tied for fourth place with 156 strokes each. William McClure (junior - Fayetteville, NC) was seventh at 162.
The Lake Chesdin golf course is 6,951 yards and has a rating of 72.5 with a slope of 133. It is located in Chesterfield, VA. The Broncos will travel to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC for the 38th Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Championships on March 27 - 29, 2009.
