WALLACE, NC – The Fayetteville State men’s golf team currently sits in 12th place after concluding play on day one of the Inaugural UNCP/Campbell Oil Classic held at the par 72, 6895-yard River Landing Country Club. The Broncos finished the first day firing a combined score of 699. Jacob Barge (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) is the top golfer for FSU as he sits tied for 28th place.
Fayetteville State opened the day by posting a first round score of 352; and improved its second round score by five strokes with a 347. Host school UNC Pembroke is tied for first place in the team standings with Mount Olive. Wingate, Lander and Brevard round out the top five as each team is within three strokes of each other.
Barge had a first day score of 155 after posting a 77 in the first round and 78 in round two. Brandon Jobe (So., Fayetteville, NC) sits in 63rd place with a 172 (88/84) followed by Justin Smith (Fr., Lillington, NC) in 67th place at 183 (95/88). Jake Bergman and Antonio Mayo (So., Jacksonville, NC) round out the individual standings for FSU. Bergman is in 68th place after carding a 191 (92/99) and Mayo is right behind him in 69th place with a 198 (101/97).
UNC Pembroke’s Michael Mullmann leads all individuals after shooting a 69 and 71, respectively. Brian Denton of Wingate, Jordan McColl and Greg McCullough of Lander, and Kim Koivu of Brevard make up the top five in individual play.
The third, and final, round of the Inaugural UNCP/Campbell Oil Classic will be take place on Saturday, Mar. 30 beginning at 8 a.m.
