JACKSONVILLE, NC - The Fayetteville State men's golf team finished in 14th place this past weekend at the Camp Lejeune Scarlet Consolation held at the par 72, 7040-yard Paradise Point Golf Club (Gold). The Broncos finished the weekend with a team score of 948 (+92). Jacob Barge (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) was the top golfer for FSU as he finished tied for 24th place.
The Broncos opened the tournament with a 311 and but fell back on day two posting a 322. FSU improved its score on the final day carding a 315. Averett won the overall team competition after shooting a three-day score of 880 (+24). Hampden-Sydney finished just one stroke back in second place followed in the top five by Shorter, Cape Fear and Ferrum.
Barge finished the tournament with a twelve-over-par 226; as he turned in a 77 in the first round, 75 in round two and a third-round score of 74. Brandon Jobe (So., Fayetteville, NC) was the second-highest finisher for Fayetteville State as he posted rounds of 70, 81 and 77 to tie for 30th place with a 228 (+14). Justin Smith (Fr., Lillington, NC) tied for 60th place after recording a total of 239 (+25); he tallied rounds of 78, 80 and 81. Jake Bergman and Antonio Mayo (So., Jacksonville, NC) concluded the tournament for FSU in 75th and 76th places, respectively. Bergman had rounds of 86, 86 and 87 to finish at 259 (+45); while Mayo carded rounds of 94, 97 and 83 to end the weekend with a total of 274 (+60).
Omni Hurry of Averett earned Individual Medalist honors after shooting a three-round score of 207 (-7). He was followed in the top five by Patrik Sundlof and Juan Giraldo of Shorter, Brandon Grogan of Averett, Zach Joines of Cape Fear and Mark Maynard of SCAD-Atlanta.
The Broncos will return to action this weekend (Mar. 29-30) when they travel Wallace, NC to participate in the Campbell Oil Classic hosted by UNC Pembroke.
