Isaiah Shaw Wins JCSU Spring Invitational, FSU Broncos Finish Fourth

Charlotte, N.C. – Fayetteville State University’s Isaiah Shaw shot a 75 (+4) to win the Johnson C. Smith Spring Invitational in less than ideal conditions at the par 71, 6,820-yard Emerald Lake Golf Club in Stallings, N.C. The Broncos finished fourth overall with a 371 (+87) score.

Shaw, a junior from Altamonte Springs, Fla., had a slow start with a double bogey on the first par-four 391-yard hole. He picked up the pace with four par holes on the front nine. Fourth on the leaderboard, Shaw birdied the 11th 385-yard hole and the 505-yard (par 5) 14th hole for the two-under back nine. The win marks the second time this season that Isaiah Shaw has won a Low Medalist Award.

Adam Capps (Junior – Salemburg, N.C.) finished tied for sixth for the Broncos with an 84 (+13). Corey Bissen (Sophomore - Hope Mills, N.C.) and Joshua Smith (Junior - Fayetteville, N.C.) both tied for 20th with a 106 (+35). James Rikard (Freshman – Arlington, TX) shot a 131 (+60) for 24th.

Livingstone won the meet with Phillip Harrison and Alex Stuart finishing tied for second on the leaderboard with a 76 (+5). The Blue Bears had a combined score of 317 (+33) with six golfers placing inside the top ten.

Elizabeth City State finished second at 359 (+75) while host Johnson C. Smith was third at 368 (+84).


 

 

Fayetteville State will compete in the CIAA Southern Division Tournament on Monday, March 26 in Clayton, N.C. The Southern Division Championship will be hosted by Saint Augustine’s University at the Pine Hollow Golf Club.
