CHESTERFIELD, VA - The Fayetteville State men's golf team finished third out of eight teams in the CIAA Northern Division Tournament held at the par 72, 6951-yard Lake Chesdin Golf Course. Jacob Barge (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) and Brandon Jobe (So., Fayetteville, NC) earned All-Tournament Team honors after finishing inside the top five.
The Broncos fell one spot in the team standings after a second round score of 333. FSU ended the two-day event with an overall score of 661 (+85) and placed behind winner Virginia State and runner-up Chowan. Virginia State carded a score of 631 (+55) while Chowan finished with a 654 (+78). Virginia Union placed fourth after turning in a score of 670 (+94) and Saint Augustine's was fifth at 676 (+100). Johnson C. Smith earned a sixth place finish with a score of 707 (+131) followed by Livingstone in seventh after tallying an 805 (+229). Elizabeth City State, who posted an 873 (+297), rounded out the standings in eighth place.
Jacob Barge, Fayetteville State's best performer, finished fourth after carding a 78 for the second round to finish with a 156 (+12). He finished four shots back of tournament champion Adam Clary of Virginia State. Jobe ended play one shot back of Barge after recording a second-round score of 80; he turned in a two-day score of 157 (+13). Justin Smith (Fr., Lillington, NC), with an 80 in round two, turned in his second consecutive top 10 performance with a 161 (+17). Jake Bergman finished in 31st place as he posted a 100 on Tuesday and ended the tournament with a total score of 192 (+48). Antonio Mayo (So., Jacksonville, NC) improved his first-round score by five strokes to end the tournament in 34th place; he turned in a second-round score of 95 to end with a 195 (+51).
Adam Clary edged Livingstone's Lawrence McKenzie by one stroke to win individual Low Medalist honors. He ended play with a 152 (+8) as McKenzie posted a 153 (+9). Mason Simpson of Virginia Union rounded out the top five finishers along with Barge and Jobe.
The Broncos will return to the links this weekend (Mar. 22-24) when they travel to Jacksonville, NC to participate in the Camp Lejeune Invitational.
