CHESTERFIELD, VA – The Fayetteville State men’s golf team is currently in second place after the opening round of the CIAA Northern Division Tournament held at the par 72, 6951-yard Lake Chesdin Golf Course. The Broncos shot a first round score of 328 (+40) and is nine shots back of leader Virginia State. Brandon Jobe (So., Fayetteville, NC) is the top golfer for FSU finishing the day tied for second with a 77 (+5).
Jobe is one of three Fayetteville State golfers ranked inside the top 10 following the first day of competition. He sits tied for second with Virginia State’s Adam Clary and is two strokes back of leader Lawrence McWenzie of Livingstone. Jacob Barge (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) presently is tied for fourth behind Jobe with a score of 78 (+6). Justin Smith (Fr., Lillington, NC) is tied for seventh after carding a first round 81 (+9).
Jake Bergman and Antonio Mayo (So., Jacksonville, NC) round out the individual standings for the Broncos. Bergman is tied for 25th place after shooting a 92 (+20) and Mayo ranks 33rd with a 100 (+28).
FSU will head into the second round two shots ahead of third-place Chowan and 18 in front of Virginia Union sitting in fourth place. Saint Augustine’s is fifth followed Johnson C. Smith in sixth and Livingstone in seventh. Elizabeth City State did not finish its opening round.
The final round of the CIAA Northern Division Tournament will be held on Tuesday, Mar. 19 beginning at 8 a.m.
