Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University golf team shot 314 (+30) to take second place in the Saint Augustine’s Invitational held Monday, March 13th at the par 71, 6333-yard Pine Hollow Golf Club. Sophomore Nick Pennix (Mebane, NC) fired a score of 75 (+4) to finish second on the overall leaderboard.

Virginia Union University won the one-day event by shooting 313 (+29) at the Pine Hollow course. Paul Meints of VUU also won the individual medalist honor with a score of 74 (+3).

Virginia State University, Chowan University, Elizabeth City State University, Saint Augustine’s University, and Paine College all participated in the single day tournament. VSU placed third with a score of 319 (+35), followed by Chowan in fourth with a score of 328 (+44), ECSU in fifth shooting 339 (+55), SAU took sixth with a total of 417 (+133), and Paine scored 420 (+136) to round out the participants.

Three Broncos finished in the top six of the individual scores. Aside from Pennix, sophomore Isaiah Shaw (Altamonte Springs, FL) placed fourth on the leaderboard shooting five over with a score of 76. Sophomore Christian Villanueva (Fayetteville, NC) was just two strokes behind in sixth with a score of 78 (+7).

Sophomore Adam Capps (Salemburg, NC) finished the round with a 14-over par 85 for 17th place. Junior Austen Parlett (Hope Mills, NC) had a score of 91 (+20) to place 26th out of the 35 competitors.



Fayetteville State will return to the greens on Tuesday, March 14th for the SAU Roundup hosted by Saint Augustine’s. The event will also be played at the Pine Hollow Golf Club.
