CHARLOTTE, NC - The Fayetteville State golf team finished runner-ups to rival Virginia State in the 2014 CIAA Southern Division Golf Tournament completed on Tuesday, March 11. The Broncos finished 62-over par 638 (312-326) for the two-day competition held at the Larkhaven Par 72, 6,717-yard course behind the Trojans' 599 (+23). Chowan finished seven strokes behind for third place. Seven institutions competed in the tournament with a total of 38 student-athletes.

Junior Brandon Jobe (Fayetteville, NC) finished third on the leaderboard with a 6-over par 150. Sophomore Justin Smith (Lillington, NC) also finished in the top ten for the Broncos with an overall score of 157 (+13); which placed him at eighth. For their performance, the two were named to the All-Tournament Team

Matt Genchi of Virginia State won the Individual Medalist Honor with a two-day score of 145, one-over par. He led the first round with a four-under par. VSU had five players to finish within the top ten.

The Broncos four-scoring golfers finished within the Top-20. Jobe finished the first round two-over par and added two more strokes on his final attempt. Smith had a 77 and 80 for his two rounds. Matthew Hawley, a sophomore from Garner, finished 15th overall at 165 (79-86). Christopher Jackson (sophomore - Raeford, NC) finished 16th with a 166 (82-84).

Host Johnson C. Smith finished fourth (330) with Livingstone (347), Elizabeth City State (405) and Virginia Union (409) rounding out the pack.

The top eight individual finishers were named to the CIAA Southern Divisional All-Tournament Team.
