CLAYTON, NC – The Fayetteville State men’s golf team geared up the for the CIAA Southern Division Tournament by competing in the CIW Round-Up I on Sunday afternoon at the par 71, 6508-yard Pine Hollow Golf Club. The Broncos finished third out of seven teams at the event with a total score of 315. Brandon Jobe (So., Fayetteville, NC) was the top performer for FSU with a score of 75 (+4).
The 75 carded by Jobe was his lowest score of the season at the time; but saw it passed by his 72 in the first round of the CIAA Southern Division Tournament the following day. Jacob Barge (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) finished with a 76 (+5) and was followed by an 82 (+11) from Justin Smith (Fr., Lillington, NC); Jake Bergman also turned in a score of 82 (+11). Antonio Mayo (So., Jacksonville, NC), playing as an individual, ended the day with a score of 90 (+19).
Virginia Union's Mason Simpson won the individual competition after finishing with an even-par 71. Michael Gardner of Saint Augustine's finished one stroke behind Simpson with a 72 (+1) to place second at the event.
Saint Augustine’s captured the team competition with a total score of 300 (+16) and Virginia Union placed second with a 306 (+22). Fayetteville State was followed by Virginia State in fourth after tallying a 322 (+38) and Johnson C. Smith in fifth place at 353 (+69). Livingstone placed sixth with a 380 (+96) and Elizabeth City State rounded out the event in seventh place with a score of 397 (+113).
