BRONCOS GOLF PLACES SECOND OVERALL IN THE BLUE BEAR CLASSIC TO OPEN THE 2017 SEASON

China Grove, NC - The Fayetteville State University golf team shot 321 (+37) to finish second in the 2017 Blue Bear Classic hosted by Livingstone College Monday, March 6th at the par 71, 6609 yard Warrior Golf Club. Sophomores Isaiah Shaw (Altamonte Springs, FL) and Adam Capps (Salemburg, NC) placed second and third, respectively on the overall leaderboard.

Benedict College, Johnson C. Smith University, and the hosting Livingstone were the other competing teams in the tournament. The Blue Bears won the event by one stroke, shooting 320 (+36) for the day. JCSU was third with a total of 365 (+81) and The Tigers finished fourth with a score of 417 (+133).

Telvin Walker of Livingstone shot 77 (+6) to claim the individual medalist honors. Shaw was just one shot behind at 78 (+7) for second place. Capps took third behind the overall leader by two strokes at 79 (+8).

Sophomores Nick Pennix (Mebane, NC) and Christian Villanueva (Fayetteville, NC) were seventh and ninth, respectively on the overall leaderboard. Pennix fired an 81 (+10) and Villanueva shot 83 (+12) in the event.

Junior Austen Parlett (Hope Mills, NC) placed 15th with a score of 97 (+26). Parlett finished ahead of four of the six golfers from JCSU and three from Benedict.

Fayetteville State returns to the course for the SAU Invitational hosted by Saint Augustine’s University March 12-14. 2017. The tournament will be held in Raleigh, NC.
