FUQUAY-VARINA, NC - Fayetteville State running back Colon Bailey, Jr. has been named the Boxtorow National Player of the Week for his performance against the Livingstone College Blue Bears. Bailey, Jr., a junior from Manteo, NC, carried the ball 36 times for a school-record 288 yards and three touchdowns in the Broncos’ 47-29 homecoming victory over the Blue Bears.
Bailey, Jr. surpassed the previous mark of 265 yards set by Clifton Davis in 1993 after falling just 45 yards shy of tying the mark against Saint Augustine’s. He has rushed for 637 yards and seven touchdowns on 93 carries in the last three games, and is averaging 212.3 yards per contest during that stretch.
He needs just 63 yards to become the first FSU running back since Davis to break the 1,000-yard rushing plateau. Davis rushed for 1,063 yards during the 1994 season.
This is Bailey, Jr.’s honor of the week after being recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as its Offensive Back of the Week.
He will be featured on www.boxtorow.com as its National Player of the Week and will also appear as a guest on the sports talk show FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW with host Donal Ware.
