Three Broncos Garner Weekly Honors by the CIAA

Oct. 23, 2017

Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association released its Week No. 8 Football Players and Coach of the Week honors and it highlighted three Broncos; Head Coach Richard Hayes, Linebacker Seth Johnson, and Offensive Lineman Greg Brooks.

The Football Coaches and Sports Information Directors’ Association named Richard Hayes the Coach of the Week after FSU sailed to the top of the CIAA Southern Division with its homecoming win. Fayetteville State held off a serious comeback effort by Saint Augustine’s to defeat the Falcons 34-31 with six seconds left in the game. The Broncos sport a 4-4 overall record and a 3-2 conference record. The Broncos are 3-0 in the division.

The Northern and Southern Division winners are determined by the highest winning percentage of conference games won, based upon the seven-game conference schedule. In case of a tie between divisional teams, the winner shall be determined by head-to-head competition and then divisional winning percentages. Results versus common conference opponents and a coin toss would be the last two resorts if a tie still exists.

Senior Seth Johnson (Charlotte, NC) was named Linebacker of the Week after making 12 tackles in the game. Seth had five solo and seven assisted defensive stops.

Greg Brooks (Walkertown, NC) was named the Rookie of the Week. The offensive lineman helped the Broncos to 462 yards of total offense. FSU finished with four rushing touchdowns after scrambling for 254 yards on the ground. Fayetteville State threw for 208 yards on 14 completions.

Fayetteville State will travel to Salisbury, NC to take on the winless Blue Bears of Livingstone College before a face-off against rival Winston-Salem State University.
