HAMPTON, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced Fayetteville State's first year head coach Lawrence Kershaw as this week's Football Coach of the Week. The Broncos defeated the Chowan Hawks 35-29 in triple overtime in Luther "Nick" Jeralds stadium. FSU have improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Freshman wide receiver Juwan Moye (Raleigh, NC) was named the receiver of week.
Moye pulled in seven receptions over the Hawks for 165 yards and two touchdowns. His longest reception, which ended in a touchdown, was for 46 yards. His second touchdown reception was the game winner in the third overtime period. Moye, who also fields kickoffs, returned two for 27 yards. In all purpose yards, he accumulated 192 yards.
Fayetteville State is setting new benchmarks in the programs rehabilitation under Kershaw. FSU have already improved upon last season's 2-8 overall finish. The Broncos won its first conference game since 2009 and has the best start on a season since 2008. Fayetteville State is currently on a three game win streak.
The Broncos will play host to Southern Division rival Shaw University on Saturday, October 12 at 4:00 pm. The game is designated Military Appreciation Day. All active and retired soldiers will receive free admission with proper identification. The NC National Guard and the Fort Bragg Color Guard will highlight the pregame activities.
