Ettrick, VA - Fayetteville State University, along with Saint Augustine's College, are the preseason football picks to win the CIAA Western. The announcement was made by the Conference Coaches' Association at the annual CIAA Football Press Conference and Luncheon held at Virginia State University's Jones Dinning Hall, Thursday, July 26, 2007.

The preseason ranking by the coaches is the fifth straight time Fayetteville State University has been picked to finish first in the West. The Broncos, 3-7 overall last season, return 14 starters, including seven on offense, six on defense and one on special teams.

The 2007 CIAA Preseason Football team was also announced and Fayetteville State University placed four on the squad. They are: senior wide receiver Darryl Barnett (6-4, 205, Raeford, NC), senior place kicker Eric Lamoureux (5-11, 200, Roxbury, NH), senior linebacker Geron Harper (6-4, 250, Maysville, NC) and junior defensive back Donte' Wise (5-10, 175, Fayetteville, NC). Last season Wise was a member of the 2006 CIAA All-Conference second team.

For the first time Coach Kenny Phillips was pleased with the selection and he let the audience of media, coaches, administrator and staff know he was pleased with their choice. "In past years, I felt I was set up," said Coach Phillips. "But this year I want everyone to know that Fayetteville State University is still alive and when you come to Fayetteville or when the Broncos come to you, beware."
