Roanoke, VA - The 2017 Fayetteville State Broncos have been predicted to finish second in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Southern Division and fifth overall by the CIAA Football Coaches' Association. Place kicker David Lamb, punter Matthew Trau, and defensive lineman Darius Darden was named to the 2017 Preseason All-CIAA Team by the Coaches' Association and the Sports Information Directors' Association.
David Lamb, a native of Pineville, NC, ranked fourth amongst the conference in points by a kicker with 55 points. He was 12-of-18 in field goals (67%) and made 83% (19-of-23) of his extra point attempts. At the conclusion of last season, Lamb garnered Second Team All-CIAA honors as a sophomore as the Broncos leading scorer.
Matthew Trau, of Montross, VA, averaged 38.3 yards per punt last season from 53 punts for 2,032 yards. He ranked second in the conference with his longest boot of 69 yards and third with 15 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Greensboro native Darius Darden made the list of honorees as a defensive lineman with 37 tackles (14 solo and 23 assisted stops) with 3 sacks for 15 yards as a freshman.
Fayetteville State finished 4-1 in the division and had a conference record of 4-3 last season. The Broncos are predicted to finish the division behind defending champion Winston-Salem State, who was also predicted to repeat.
FSU will open the season on the road September 2nd in Murfreesboro, NC against the Hawks of Chowan University in a non-conference matchup. The Broncos home opener will be against Wingate University on September 9th with Military Appreciation. For the complete schedule, visit fsubroncos.com.
