FAYETTEVILLE - Fayetteville State's Austin Turner and Jeffrey Brooks were named Honorable Mention Preseason All-American by Consensus Draft Services the publication announced on Monday. Turner, a native of San Diego, CA, is the reigning Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Special Teams Player of the Year. Last season, the junior kicker's 88 points were second most in FSU single-season history. He made a CIAA best 17 field goals and converted 34-of-37 extra point attempts. Against Bowie State on Sept. 12, 2009, Turner booted a 49-yard field goal - the longest in FSU history. Brooks, a junior running back from Miami, FL, returned to action in 2009 after his 2008 season was cut short do to season-ending injury. Following months of grueling rehab, Brooks returned to lead FSU with 372 kickoff return yards in 2009, including a 65-yard return in the inaugural Two Rivers Classic against the University of North Carolina at Pembroke on Aug. 29, 2009. He averaged 30.1 yards per kick return, good for second in the CIAA. Brooks, Turner and the rest of the 2009 CIAA Champion Broncos open the season on Sept. 4 at UNCP in the second annual Two Rivers Classic. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
