FSU Broncos Stampede Golden Bulls 41-16 in the Queen City

Charlotte, NC - Fayetteville State University worked over Johnson C. Smith 41-16 on the Eddie C. McGirt Field to improve to 2-0 in the CIAA Southern Division and 2-2 in conference play.

Stevie Green (Washington, NC) carried the Broncos for 120 rushing yards with three (3) touchdowns and Richard Latimer (Charlotte, NC) returned home to throw for 147 yards on 11 of 20 passing. Latimer also ran for 27 yards. FSU finished with 388 yards of total offense in 70 plays.

Green opened the game with his first TD with an eight-yard run that capped an eight-play 77-yard drive with 8:04 on the clock. He later scored prior to the end of the first quarter with 1:12 remaining on a nine-yard run. Green scored the Broncos final points of the game with a 14-yard score with 9:28 left in the third quarter.

Donshel Jetton (Mooresville, NC), who finished with 63 yards rushing and two (2) touchdowns, scored his first with an eight-yard run with 5:26 left in the first quarter. He would later score in the third quarter (13:38 on the clock) with a six-yard run.

Darnell Walker (Charlotte, NC) carried the ball five times for his home crowd for 21 yards. His longest rush of nine yards was when he crossed the goal line for a touchdown.

Johnson C. Smith's Desmond Dozier scored the Golden Bulls first points of the game with a 92-yard kickoff return; the point-after attempt was wide left.



The JCSU's defense put points on the board with a safety by David Francis. The Golden Bulls managed a scoring drive in the fourth quarter when Harold Herbin rushed three yards into the end zone to cap a six-play 38-yard drive. JCSU converted the two-point attempt.

Fayetteville State will host Saint Augustine's for its homecoming next Saturday at 2:00 pm. The Falcons pulled off a 17-14 upset over two-time defending CIAA Champs Winston-Salem State, today.
