FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State Broncos fell to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls 35-18 on Saturday afternoon in front of 3,173 fans at Luther “Nick” Jeralds Stadium. Running back Colon Bailey, Jr. (Jr., Manteo, NC) rushed for a career-high 129 yards and two touchdowns for the Broncos, while wide receiver Ricardo White (So., Monroe, NC) caught a career-best seven catches for 63 yards. FSU finished the game with 364 yards of total offense.
Fayetteville State falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the league, while the Golden Bulls improve to 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in CIAA play.
White and Bailey, Jr. were two of four players to set new career-highs on Saturday against Johnson C. Smith. Strong safety Michael Fogg (So., Raleigh, NC), free safety Michael Johnson (So., Raleigh, NC) and wide receiver Antonio Allen (Jr., Raleigh, NC) also set new career-highs for the Broncos.
The 129-yard performance by Bailey, Jr. marks the third straight game an FSU running back has rushed for over 100 yards. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry in the contest. Fayetteville State finished the game with 186 total yards on the ground as quarterback Andreas Hudson (Sr., Philadelphia, PA) added 40 yards on nine carries. Hudson passed for 178 yards on 18-of-35 attempts and one interception, completing a game-long pass of 55 yards to Allen. Allen finished with a career-best 82 yards receiving.
On defense, Johnson recorded a career-high 19 tackles, 12 solo and seven assisted, while also collecting 2.5 tackles for loss. The 19 tackles were most by a Bronco player this season. Fogg contributed a career-best eight tackles.
Fayetteville State will hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 20 as it travels to Raleigh, NC to face the Saint Augustine’s Falcons at 1:30 p.m.
