Bowie, MD -- The Fayetteville State University football team dropped a cross-divisional contest 37-3 to Bowie State University on Saturday, October 1st at Bulldogs Stadium. FSU moves to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the CIAA, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference.

In the first quarter, BSU scored first with a 31 yard field goal. The Broncos responded with a 35 yard field goal of their own from sophomore kicker David Lamb (Pineville, NC) with 9:21 remaining in the quarter. Bowie State managed to produce an 11-play, 68 yard drive before the end of the first for a 10-3 advantage.

Fayetteville State fell into a deeper hole in the second quarter. BSU outscored the Broncos 20-0 in the second for a 30-3 halftime lead. The FSU defense held Bowie State scoreless in the 3rd quarter and only allowed seven points in the entire second half.

Senior defensive back Travis Scales (Southern Pines, NC) had a game-high 11 tackles, including 10 solo. Junior defensive back David Stevenson (Stone Mountain, GA) followed with nine tackles and a pass breakup. Senior defensive back Brian Walker (Charlotte, NC) had three solo tackles and snatched interception of the season for the Broncos secondary.

Sophomore wide receiver Gedari Liverman (Elizabeth City, NC) had 154 total yards, including four kick returns for 115 yards and six catches for 23 yards. Junior quarterback Devin Knudsen (Fresno, CA) completed 11-of-24 (45.8%) of his passes for 87 yards with an interception in his first start at FSU. Redshirt freshman Stevie Green (Washington, NC) had 78 yards on 22 carries.

Bowie State ran 89 plays for 581 yards of offense, including 52 plays run in the first half. Fayetteville State had 164 yards of total offense, 155 yards of kick returns, and only converted 2-of-16 (12.5%) of their third down attempts.

Amir Hall passed for 422 yards with one touchdown. Brandon Britton had five receptions for 120 yards. Nyme Manns caught four passes for 78 yards and a TD. Robert Chesson had 15 carries for 88 yards and three TDs on the ground.

Fayetteville State returns to the field for a road divisional game against Shaw University on October 8th. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
