Theron Jones is entering his first season as Outside Linebacker Coach and Video Coordinator at Fayetteville State and his fifth season on the collegiate level.
Jones is an alumnus of Fayetteville State, earning a Bachelor's Degree in History in 2005. He played football for the Broncos and was part of the 2002 CIAA Championship Team. Jones also has his Masters Degree in Education from Grand Canyon University.
He was the Linebackers Coach at Virginia State University for three seasons (2009-12) and coached two CIAA All-Rookie Team members in Byron Gourdine (2009) and Tim Durant (2010). Under Jones, the linebackers improve each year. In his first year they recorded five sacks and improved to15 sacks in year two. In 2011 the linebackers recorded 13 sacks and followed it up with a big year in 2012 with 18. The unit averaged double-digit sacks each season following the 2009 campaign. The defense ranked second in the CIAA in scoring defense (19.40) and pass efficiency defense (115.12); while finishing third in total defense (341.40) and turnover margin (.30).
He had three successful years at Hanover High School in Mechanicsville, Virginia. While there the team appeared in back-to-back Central Region Championship games and winning one in 2007.
He is a native of Mesic, North Carolina.
