MEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO EXTEND WINNING STREAK AT VIRGINIA-LYNCHBURG

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State men’s basketball team will look to lengthen its winning streak to three games on Friday evening in a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Virginia-Lynchburg Dragons. The Broncos, in their second all-time meeting with Virginia-Lynchburg, will look to complete the season sweep after picking up an 82-68 victory in Fayetteville on Nov. 27. FSU enters the game with a 3-4 overall record, while the Dragons are 7-9 on the season.

The Broncos are coming off a 76-63 road victory over the Barber-Scotia Sabers on Tuesday night in which three players scored in double-figures. Tyrrel Tate (Jr., Raleigh, NC) picked up his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Anthony Shelton (So., Cary, NC) also scored 15 points. Andre Best (Sr., Raleigh, NC) added 11 points and nine rebounds. Fayetteville State shot 49.1% from the field against the Sabers and led 49-31 in rebounds.

In the previous contest against the Dragons, Shelton finished with a game-high 21 points and was one of four Broncos to score in double-figures. Fayetteville State made 10 of its 21 three-point attempts and forced Virginia-Lynchburg into 24 turnovers. The Dragons had three players score in double figures led by Dennis Gravely’s 16 points. Egor Shakhmetov and Dmitry Zimin also tallied 10 points each.

Shelton and Tate continue to lead the Broncos in scoring this season as Shelton is averaging 17.9 points per game and Tate 13.7. Tate is now averaging a team-best 6.6 rebounds on the season after pulling in 11 against Barber-Scotia. Louis Craft (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) is right behind Tate in rebounding at 6.1 per game and is third on the team in scoring with 8.3 per contest. Best is dishing out a team-high 3.9 assists per game and Juwan Addison (Fr., Fairmont, NC) has 12 steals on the season.

The Broncos will travel to Brevard, NC to face the Brevard College Tornados at 4 p.m. on Dec. 30.
