FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Fayetteville State men's basketball team will hit the road to face the Barton College Bulldogs Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Broncos will be facing a nationally ranked opponent as the Bulldogs are ranked 15th by Basketball Times.
FSU was victorious in its home season opener against Barber-Scotia, 83-63, on Nov. 9. Barton defeated Shaw 77-67 in its first contest of the season.
Fayetteville State lost both games last season to the Bulldogs 98-83 in Fayetteville and 90-70 in Wilson.
Point Guard Anthony Shelton (So., Cary, NC) is coming off a career-best game against the Sabers in which he scored a game-high 24 points in 24 minutes played. He shot 8-of-10 from the field and 6-of-8 from behind the three-point line. Shelton was one of three Broncos to score double-digit points against Barber-Scotia
Forward Tyrrel Tate (Jr., Raleigh, NC) scored 20 points and guard Travis Marcus (Jr., Washington, DC) had 10. Transfer forward/center Louis Craft (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) grabbed a game-high ten rebounds and scored four points in 23 minutes.
The Broncos shot 47.8% as a team against the Sabers including a 50.0% clip in the first half. FSU made seven three-pointers in the contest, led by Shelton's six, and posted a 33.3% in that category.
Barton's Gerald Boston led the Bulldogs against Shaw with 24 points and four assists. Jon Hart grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Barton shot 44.6% from the field as a team and forced the Bears into 17 turnovers which led to 25 points.
Fayetteville State will remain on the road this weekend. The Broncos will participate in the Pickle Classic in Mount Olive, NC. FSU will face Lenoir-Rhyne at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and host Mount Olive at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
