FSU Men's Basketball Coach Alphonza Kee
Nov. 8, 2012
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State men’s basketball team kicks off its 2012-13 season on Friday evening when it hosts the Barber-Scotia Sabers at Felton J. Capel Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Broncos finished last season fourth in the CIAA Southern Division with a 10-17 overall record and 6-10 conference mark.
The Broncos are entering their fourth season under head coach Alphonza Kee. He has led FSU to a CIAA Tournament semifinals appearance in 2010-11. Fayetteville State returns 10 letter winners from last season and welcomes three newcomers in Louis Craft (Jr., Fayetteville, NC), Juwan Addison (Fr., Fairmont, NC) and JeTerrel Murray (So., Charlotte, NC).
This year’s team is looking to create “Total C.H.A.O.S.” for its opponents. With an up-tempo attack in place both offensively and defensively, Fayetteville State eyes a run toward its second CIAA Championship in program history. “The term C.H.A.O.S. has a great meaning as far as an acronym,” Kee said. “You talk about all of those things: Commitment & Character, Humble & Humility, Attitude, Obedient and Success. We have a variety of meanings for those words. It’s a two-punch phrase in Total C.H.A.O.S. as far as the style of play and atmosphere. You will see that when you come to Capel Arena this season.”
Moving into year four of Kee’s game plan, the Broncos are in position for a very promising athletic season. The class of 2013 will ensure advanced experience in and out of the arena. The juniors and sophomores join the team in full throttle with cohesive chemistry adding depth to the guard positions. “I am excited about the familiarity that we have this season,” said Kee. “Four starters that were in the lineup at the end of the year are back.”

BRONCOS ROMP TO THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY
CONCORD, N.C. - Fighting injuries and changes to the lineup throughout the season, all Fayetteville State coach Alphonza Kee has wanted was for the Broncos to find a way to peak at the right time.
Sidney Evans led four players in double figures with 16 points as Fayetteville State won for the third straight time and its fourth game in its last five after dismantling Barber-Scotia 88-62 on Thursday night.
Fayetteville State was picked to finish fourth in the Southern Division by the CIAA Men’s Basketball Coaches Association. During the conference’s Media Day, it was announced that Tyrrel Tate (Jr., Raleigh, NC) was named to the 2012-13 All-CIAA Preseason Men’s Basketball Team.
Tate and guard Anthony Shelton (So., Cary, NC) highlight the returnees as Shelton earned All-CIAA Rookie Team honors last season after averaging 7.4 points per game while playing in all 27 games with 15 starts. Tate averaged 11.0 points per game last season in 27 games played. He also averaged 4.7 rebounds per game and scored a season-high 19 points against Johnson C. Smith. Tate appeared in all 27 games with 13 starts.
Forward Paul Lane (Jr., Atlanta, GA), guard Andre Best (Sr., Raleigh, NC) are the other two starters for the Broncos who return from last season. Lane made eight starts in 2011-12 while Best tied for the team-lead with 20 starts and averaged 5.6 points per game.
The Broncos will play a 25-game regular season schedule in 2012-13, with the Saint Augustine’s contest on Feb. 2 and Johnson C. Smith on Feb. 9 being televised. FSU’s CIAA opener will take place at Chowan on Jan. 3.
