Feb. 24, 2014
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced Fayetteville State's Alphonza Kee as the 2014 Men's Basketball Coach of the Year. The honor was given during the pre-tournament awards luncheon at the Charlotte Convention Center.
The CIAA Men's Basketball Coaches' Association made the selection based on the 18-9 overall and 10-6 conference records. Fayetteville State secured the #3 seed in the Southern Division after finishing 6-4. FSU has the second best winning percentage among CIAA teams.
Compared to last season, FSU has won six more conference games and has doubled its overall victories.
In April of 2009, the 1998 alum was named the 17th head coach of the program. Until now, the Broncos have only had one other coach given the honor, Jake Ford in 1981.
#3S Fayetteville State will play #2N Lincoln (PA) in the 7:00 pm Quarterfinals of the 69th Annual CIAA Men's Basketball Tournament at the Time Warner Cable Arena. The game will be covered on Aspire TV and Bounce TV.
