BOWIE STATE SURVIVES BRONCO RODEO WITH 82-79 VICTORY
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State rounded up the Broncos to avenge a cross divisional 75-72 loss to Virginia Union on Saturday night. In tonight's matchup against Bowie State and its final cross divisional opponent, the Bulldogs strapped in for a bucking ride and survived 82-79 in the closing minutes of the game.
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Fayetteville State men's basketball team finishes its longest road trip of the season and last one out of North Carolina at Bowie State on Monday at 7:30 pm fresh off a convincing 94-77 win at Virginia Union on Saturday.
The Broncos finish up a three-game road trip against teams from the Northern Division. It’s also the last Northern Division team FSU will play until the CIAA Tournament.
FSU has already eclipsed last year’s win total. Another victory and the Broncos surpass their 10-win mark from the 2011-12 season.
Bowie State is one of three Northern Division teams with exactly one conference win. Only Lincoln (PA) (3-2) has a winning CIAA record from the Northern Division.
Tyrrel Tate scored a season-best 31 points in the Virginia Union game. That came immediately after a 27-point output against Lincoln (PA). Tate has now totaled five 20-plus point performances and is eighth in the conference at 18.0 points per game.
The Broncos are in their 71st season of competition and boast an 852-950 all-time record and 399-463 record in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. FSU's lone conference tournament championship came during the 1972-73 campaign. The Broncos have played in six tournament championship games.
Virginia Union Recap
Once again, FSU’s resiliency was tested. But against the Panthers, the Broncos responded after giving up a big lead. After VUU rallied back from a 44-35 deficit to tie things at 49-49, FSU responded and eventually coasted to a victory.
Tyrrel Tate scored 31 points and Joshua Dawson responded with 16 points and seven rebounds. Torian Showers had nine rebounds in the game.
Bowie State Scouting Report
The Bulldogs are under the direction of fifth-year head coach Darrell Brooks. Brooks is 84-43 in his tenure with Bowie State, including a 7-9 mark this season.
Bowie State enters this game fresh off of a 60-59 win against Shaw that snapped a five-game losing skid.

Bowie State is fifth in the conference at 77.2 points per game, but just 11th defensively, giving up the same 77.2 points per contest.
