Ball Control Hurts FSU Broncos in 96-88 Loss to Allen

Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State struggled to maintain ball control in a close 96-88 loss to Allen University in its final game of 2017. Willie Gilmore and Josh Bryant (both of Fayetteville) combined for 48 points. Gilmore led all with 25 while Bryant chipped in 23.

After trailing by one (76-75) with 5:39 left in the game, FSU (4-8 overall) committed three fouls and turned the ball over twice to fall behind by seven points with four minutes left and set the tone for the remainder of the game. Allen made 8-of-9 free throws in the final five minutes of the game.

Fayetteville State shot better in field goals (54.7% to 49.3%) and had three more rebounds (34-31) than Allen, but the Yellow Jackets (10-3 overall) converted 16 Bronco turnovers into 25 points for the victory. Allen also made 23 of 26 free throws.

Four Broncos finished with double-digit points. In addition to Gilmore and Bryant, Joshua Smith hit 12 points and Javen McNeill had 11.



Allen University was led by Vernon Jackson (21 points), Quincy Washington (19 points), and Demetrius Richardson (18 points).

Fayetteville State will start 2018 with a road trip to Lincoln (PA) on January 4th, Virginia Union on January 6th, and Bowie State on January 8th. The Broncos will return home on January 13th for a CIAA Southern Division contest against Johnson C. Smith University.
