Pensacola, FL - Fayetteville State University traveled 690 miles to face Ouachita Baptist University, who traveled 525, in Pensacola, Fl at the Comfort Inn - Pensacola Beach Hoop Classic. The Ouachita Baptist Tigers (6-4 overall) defeated the Broncos (3-5 overall) 67-49 in the first game of the men's classic.

Phillippe Harris led FSU with ten points and five assists. Memo Rodriguez led the game by connecting 6 of 14 three pointers for 24 points. Two other Tigers scored in double figures: Ed Keyes, who scored a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Antonio Benjamin, who netted 12 points. Despite a slow start, Fayetteville State was down 24-30 at the half.

The Tigers jumped to an early 11-2 run at the start of the game with 13:23 remaining in the half. Down by nine, the Broncos battled back to tie the game at 19-19 with 5:21 left. Ed Keyes led the half with nine points making three of seven from the field and three of five from the charity stripe. Rodriguez scored eight of his points to help the Tigers.

Fayetteville State tied the game twice in the second half and was down by two (49-47) with 8:38 remaining in the game. Memo Rodriguez scored 11 straight points to spark a 13-0 run; which ended with 2:16 remaining by Harris who scored his tenth point.

Fayetteville State will play host University of West Florida tomorrow at 6:30 pm CST.
