Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State lost its first conference game of the season in an 82-61 contest against Virginia State University.

Josh Bryant does what Josh Bryant do.

Bryant, a native of Fayetteville, averages 21.5 points per game and finished today with a game-high 21 points. Fellow native Willie Gilmore scored 12 points and Zaire Williams (Winston-Salem, NC) followed with 11.

FSU's shots just couldn't seem to fall. The Broncos (4-7 overall, 1-1 CIAA) shot 6-of-22 in the first half and 9-of-27 in the second, making 30.6% for the game.

"There are not many teams that we are going to beat if we shoot 30% from the field and only have two assists for an entire game," said head coach Ken Spencer. "We have to learn to play together as a team and share that basketball."

Virginia State (8-1 overall, 1-1 CIAA) shot 52.6% for the game and beat the battle on the boards 42-30. Of the 30 rebounds for FSU, nine of them were offensive.

Richard Granberry led the Trojans with a double-double of 20 points and a dozen rebounds. Walter Williams finished with 15 points and Cyonte Melvin had ten (10).

Fayetteville State will return to action in Capel Arena on December 30th with a 2:00 pm rematch against Allen University. Admission is FREE as Fayetteville State host Community Month.
