Josh Bryant Drops 21 Points in FSU Broncos 80-63 Loss to Lander

Fayetteville, NC- The Fayetteville State men's basketball team (3-6 overall) lost 80-63 to Lander University, Monday evening in Felton J. Capel Arena.

Tonight's game was a back and forth affair until Lander (4-4 overall) pulled away in the second half. 

Sophomore Josh Bryant (Fayetteville, NC) had 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Tonight was Bryant's fifth 20-point game of the season. Denzell Hosch (Shelby, NC) was second on the team in points with 11. Off the bench, Freshman Zaire Williams had nine (9).

The Bearcats were led by Rahu Purdie and Sidney Robinson who had 22 and 18 points, respectively.

The Broncos opened the game with an early 8-2 run before the Bearcats responded with a 7-2 run to shrink the lead to 10-9. A three-pointer by Hosch gave the Broncos an eight-point lead  (26-18) with 8:47 remaining in the first half. The eight-point (8) lead proved to be FSU's largest lead in the game. Lander responded with a 17-4 run over the last eight (8) minutes to end the first half with a 35-30 lead.



Lander's Kade Marra and Purdie hit consecutive 3 pointers to start the second half and give the Bearcats an 11-point lead. With 12 minutes left in the second half, the Broncos narrowed Lander's lead to five (5) points, 46-41. However, the Bearcats answered with two 8-0 runs to put the game out of reach for FSU.

Fayetteville State will close out the week against conference opponents Chowan (Thursday, December 14th at 5:30 p.m.) and Virginia State (Saturday, December 16th at 4 p.m.).
