Denzell Hosch Scores 25 in Fayetteville State's 90-76 Loss to Allen

Columbia, SC - Denzell Hosch finished one-point shy of his career best to lead Fayetteville State in a 90-76 loss to Allen University. Hosch, a native of Shelby, NC, scored 25 points in 20 minutes to lead two other Broncos who netted double digits.

Willie Gilmore and Joshua Smith, both natives of Fayetteville, scored 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Fayetteville State (3-5 overall) led by as many as 14 points midway through the first half (42-28) with 6:48 left and held on to hold a 47-41 halftime lead.

The Broncos went on a 9-0 run to break a 21-all tie and a 9-1 run for FSU's largest lead of the game. Hosch led the half with 18 points while Smith ranged in 12 from 4-of-5 three-pointers. FSU hit ten (10) three-pointers in the first half, 10-of-16, and shot 53.3% in field goals.        

Allen University (9-3 overall) tied the game at 49 within the first four minutes of the second half and at 56-56 with 13:58 remaining. The Yellow Jackets took complete control for the remainder of the game as the Broncos hit a dry spell.

Down by two points (61-63) with 11:39 left, FSU missed eight consecutive field goals and trailed 79-67 with 4:18 left on the clock.

Allen finished with a 59.4 shooting percentage while FSU dropped to 46.4%. The Broncos went from shooting 62.5% in three-pointers to 41.4% for the game with only 2-of-13 threes made in the second half.


 

 

Brandon Moore matched the game-high 25 points to lead the way for the Yellow Jackets with four others also reaching the double-digit mark. Quincy Washington netted 21 points while Demetrius Richardson added 18 and Dhonte Ford ten (10) points.

Fayetteville State will host Lander University on Monday, December 11th at 7 pm. The Broncos will open its doors for "Community Month", which allows all patrons free admission to Capel Arena games during the month of December.

FSU will open conference play on Thursday, December 14th in a double-header matchup against Chowan and Saturday, December 16 against Virginia State.

FSU will close out 2017 with a rematch against Allen at 2 pm on December 30th.
