Fayetteville State Drops 61-52 Exhibition Loss to Longwood

Farmville, VA - Redshirt Sophomore Josh Bryant finished one rebound shy of a double-double in the Broncos 61-52 exhibition game loss to Longwood University. The Fayetteville native produced 19 points and nine (9) rebounds in 19 minutes played. FSU (3-5 overall) trailed 29-22 at the half and 32-30 in the second half.

Willie Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC) scored ten (10) points and Javen McNeill (West End, NC) hit eight (8).

The Broncos played a tight first half with three score-ties at the 12-12 mark. The Lancers (3-5 overall) commanded a 10-0 run (22-12) before Bryant sparked a 10-0 comeback run. His six points combined with Willie Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC) four tied the game at 22. The Lancers closed the half out with a 7-0 run.

Longwood continued its run into the second half, leading to a 17-point advantage (46-29). The Lancers also had the advantage of 24 points in the paint, 7 off turnovers, and 8 second-chance points (10 for the game). Chris Shield led the Big South conference member with a double-double of 13 rebounds and 11 points. Isaiah Walton and Spencer Franklin each added ten points.

Fayetteville State led the game with 13 points off turnovers and eight fast break points. The Broncos out-rebounded Longwood 45-42, but lost the battle on the offensive end as the Lancers grabbed 31 defensive boards; limiting second-chance opportunities.



Fayetteville State will travel to Columbia, SC on December 9th for a matchup against Allen.
