Raleigh, NC - Every Bronco that received minutes scored as Fayetteville State topped Saint Augustine's College 75-62 on Saturday evening inside Emery Gymnasium.
FSU improves to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA. The Falcons (currently on a three-game losing streak) fall to 1-4 in the overall standings and 0-2 in the conference. Fayetteville State shot a blistering 67 percent from the field for a 43-31 halftime lead. The Broncos cooled off in the second half, but still shot 51 percent for the game.
St. Augustine's made a late run, pulling within 59-54 on a layup by forward Shaun Washum with five minutes remaining; however the Broncos made 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch.
Sophomore guard Ariel Robinson scored a team-high 17 points for the Broncos. Junior guard De'Shaune Griffin added 13 points and five assists. Junior forward Jason Thompson scored all 12 points on 12-of-13 shooting from the free throw line.
Guard Will Gill and center Kalvin Patterson both scored 12 points for Saint Augustine's College. SAC guard Chris Jordan added 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting behind the arc for the Falcons.
The Broncos will return to action when they travel to Bluefield, WV to square off against Bluefield State College on Monday, December 15th. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm.
