FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Broncos of Fayetteville State (18-9 Overall, 10-6 CIAA, 6-4 Southern Division) carved out a moment prior to its tip-off to honor its four seniors. Paul Lane (Atlanta, GA), Louis Craft (Fayetteville, NC), Travis Marcus (Washington, DC) and Tyrrel Tate (Raleigh, NC) received tokens of appreciation at half court.
To top an evening of celebration, the Broncos ended its regular-season with an 85-78 victory over St. Augustine's (11-15, 4-12, and 1-9).
All-CIAA Honoree Tyrrel Tate led the game with 26 points. Fellow senior Louis Craft put-back ten points while Anthony Shelton (Cary, NC) finished with a dozen. CIAA All-Rookie Team Honoree Joshua Dawson (Kinston, NC) scored eight points and dished out eight assists.
The Falcons jumped to an early 6-0 and 11-5 lead at the 14:48 mark, but that would be its last and largest lead of the game. Fayetteville State dismantled the run and took a 37-29 lead into intermission.
The Broncos led by as many as 18 (61-43) with 9:41 remaining in the game. FSU scored 20 points off of 14 SAU turnovers and 23 fast break points. Fayetteville State made 8-of-18 three pointers and had a presence in post play with 41 points in the paint; compared to the Falcons 32.
Amere May was the leader for St. Augustine's with 19 points. Joel Kindred and Xavier Saddler-Mee had ten points each.
Fayetteville State will take the #3 seed in the Southern Division and will play the #2 seed from the Northern Division on Thursday, March 27th at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC.
