Fayetteville State Men Lose 67-56 to Elizabeth City State

Fayetteville, NC- The Fayetteville State men’s basketball team fell to Elizabeth City State 67-56 in Capel Arena. The loss drops the Broncos to 7-17 and 4-9 in the CIAA. Elizabeth City State improves to 11-12 and 4-9 in the conference.

In a game that was closer than what the score indicated with ten (10) lead changes and four (4) tied scores.

Josh Bryant (Fayetteville, NC) led the Broncos with 17 points off the bench and Willie Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC) had 12 points. Joshua Smith (Fayetteville, NC) and Jerimiah Pope (Clinton, NC) had nine (9) points a piece.

The difference in the game was Elizabeth City State’s three-point shooting. The Vikings shot 44% from behind the arc, making 10-of-23.

The Vikings’ Zaccheus Hobbs hit 5 of 10 from behind the arc. Hobbs had a game-high 22 points and a game-high 7 rebounds. Shyheid Petteway had 19 points and hit 3 of 5 three-pointers.

Elizabeth City State held a 56-54 lead with four minutes left in the game.  Hobbs hit a game-crushing three-pointer with less than two minutes left to put the Vikings up by seven points (61-54). Two free throws by Hobbs with 36 seconds left in the game capped a 9-0 run (65-54) by ECSU.



In the first half, the Broncos were up 25-16 before the Vikings cut the lead with an 8-0 run before halftime. In the middle of the second half, Fayetteville State retook the lead with a 46-45 score, thanks to a 13-4 run.

This Saturday, February 17th, the Broncos will host a CIAA televised game against rival Winston-Salem State at 4 pm. The game will be broadcast on the ASPiRE Network.
