FAYETTEVILLE STATE MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS ON THE ROAD 63-51 TO VOORHEES

Denmark, SC – The Fayetteville State University men’s basketball team suffered a 63-51 non-conference loss to Voorhees College on Monday, February 6th. FSU moves to 9-12 overall, while the Tigers improve to 11-11 in the standings.

FSU finished the contest shooting 40% (10-25) from the field and 75% (6-8) from the foul line. Voorhees shot 41% (12-29) from the floor and made their one and only free throw attempt. The Tigers edged Fayetteville State 45-29 in rebounding.

Redshirt freshman guard Josh Bryant (Fayetteville, NC) had a team-high 16 points, along with five rebounds and two steals. Senior forward Michael Tyson (Kinston, NC) followed with 11 points and seven boards. Junior guard Willie Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC) chipped in 10 points, two rebounds, and a steal.

Denzel Famble led Voorhees with a game-high 20 points. D.J. Evans pitched in 19 points, six rebounds, and six assists for the Tigers.

There were 15 lead changes and three ties in the contest. FSU trailed 29-27 at the half. Voorhees managed to outscore Fayetteville State 34-24 in the second half en route to the victory. The Tigers avenged their 69-66 loss to FSU earlier in the season (Nov. 15th).

The Broncos will return home for their next matchup against divisional rival Livingstone College on Wednesday, February 8th. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside Felton J. Capel Arena.
