Feb. 6, 2010 FAYETTEVILLE - The Fayetteville State men's basketball team ran out of gas in the second half of its 73-60 loss to St. Augustine's on Saturday. The Broncos (6-13, 3-10 CIAA, 1-3 Western Division) trailed by only four, 43-39, with 15 minutes left in the second half. SAC outscored 30-21 the rest of the way en route to its ninth-straight win. Spurred on by four double-digit scorers, the Falcons (18-3, 12-4, 4-0) shot 51.7 percent from the field and held FSU to 42 percent shooting. Jamel Carpenter, 19 points and Ariel Robinson, 11 points, were the only FSU players to reach double figures. Junior forward Ben Davis added six points, six rebounds and three steals while Jarmel Baxter contributed nine points. "Once again, we played in segments," said FSU head coach Alphonza Kee. "There was a segment where we played pretty good, but they're a very good basketball team. They're on top of the conference for a reason." Saturday's game was the second of five-straight contests inside Capel Arena for FSU. The Broncos host Chowan on Monday, Shaw on Thursday and Johnson C. Smith on Feb. 13. The game on Feb. 13 against JCSU will begin at 5 p.m. and be televised nationally. Tipoff for FSU's games against Chowan and Shaw is set for 7:30 p.m. FSU trailed 37-30 at halftime and by as much as 12 in the first half. The Falcons shot 53.1 percent from the field in the first frame and had 12 assists on their 17 field goals. Hayward Fain topped the Falcons with 17 points and Chris Jordan added 16.
