Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State men’s basketball team suffered a 67-54 divisional loss to the Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday, February 4th at Felton J. Capel Arena. The Broncos move to 9-11 overall and 3-3 in the division, while the Golden Bulls improve to 9-13 overall and 2-4 in the division. Both teams are tied at 5-7 in the conference.

The FSU shot 26.9% (14-52) from the field, 17.4% (4-23) from the three-point line, and 66.7% (22-33) from the free throw line. Senior guard Joshua Dawson (Kinston, NC) led the team with 11 rebounds, including 10 defensively. The Golden Bulls had 15 turnovers compared to nine for Fayetteville State.

Top scorer for JCSU, Gabon Williams, finished with a game-high 21 points and helped produce the Golden Bulls’ 91.3% (21-23) at the free throw line. The high scoring numbers provided JCSU with the win over FSU.

Fayetteville State trailed for 38:46 of the game and led by as much as 22 (67-45) with 1:44 left to play. The Broncos produced nine unanswered points before the end of the contest. JCSU lost 16-5 in the points off turnovers category.

Senior forward Michael Tyson (Kinston, NC) had 12 points and four rebounds. Junior guard Willie Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC) added 12 points and five boards. Dawson capped the contest with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds with three assists.

Robert Davis, III and Christian Williams had 15 and 12 points, respectively.



Fayetteville State moves to the fourth spot in the division, tied with Winston-Salem State.

FSU returns to the court on Wednesday, February 8th against Livingstone College. The Broncos will host this divisional clash with a 7:30 p.m. at Felton J. Capel Arena.
